Land Rover Discovery 1: cost of ownership + documentation

As you know, I’m slowly building a small collection of Land Rovers with hopes my son and I can have a museum of sorts, years down the road, showcasing our “working collection” of Land Rovers. Recently I had an opportunity to purchase a 1 owner 1998 Land Rover Discovery 1 and I was thrilled to snag it up. The owner was a true Rover fan and had a love for his Rover, much like I do with my collection. After lots of chatting and getting to know each other, we made a deal and I welcomed it into the collection.

Being a 1 owner Discovery 1 I was thrilled to get a pile of documentation with it. This enabled me to run an analysis and determine how it racked up the 180,000 miles on the clock! Upon my analysis, I could tell it got most of its mileage very quickly, judging by the 30k and 45k, and 75k service. It had a pretty easy life the past 10 years, enjoying sitting in a nice garage in Maine, only being used to go on fly fishing expeditions. Another super cool thing I got was the window sticker when it was purchased! Every collector loves having this!

I took all the documentation, scanned every single paper, and put every single dollar spent in a spreadsheet. In total, from 1998 – 2019, over $27,000 was spent on this vehicle!  Below is a snapshot of the work.
