The Mt. Zion Schoolhouse at Furnace Town is a restored one-room school that shows what rural education looked like in Maryland in the late 1800s. Located at Furnace Town near Snow Hill, the small wooden schoolhouse once served children from the surrounding iron furnace community. Like many schools of the era, students of different ages learned together in a single classroom with one teacher guiding lessons in reading, writing, and arithmetic. Today, the schoolhouse is preserved as part of the Furnace Town Living Heritage Museum, giving visitors a glimpse into what school life was like more than a century ago.
