Little Round Top at Gettysburg is one of the most famous lookout points on the entire battlefield. During the Battle of Gettysburg on July 2, 1863, this rocky hill became the far left flank of the Union Army. If Confederate forces had captured it, they could have attacked the Union line from the side and potentially changed the course of the battle. The hill was famously defended by the 20th Maine Infantry led by Colonel Joshua Chamberlain, who ordered a dramatic bayonet charge when his men ran low on ammunition. Today, visitors who climb to the top of Little Round Top at Gettysburg can stand where history happened and take in sweeping views of the battlefield below.
