The Ferrari F40’s carbon fiber chassis was so structurally efficient that it actually required added internal bracing that served no load-bearing function whatsoever—dead weight deliberately engineered into the design—because the chassis was so rigid that it transmitted suspension vibrations directly into the cockpit with such violence that drivers experienced severe fatigue and potential hearing damage, forcing Ferrari to add unnecessary mass purely to damp vibrations that a more flexibly-designed structure would have naturally absorbed.
