Sure, it’s not hard to install a dash cam, in theory, plug it in and stick it to the windshield. However, follow along as I show a very detailed install on my 2023 Ford Maverick XL Hybrid, without hard wiring! I’ll use one of the USB Ports. Initially, I planned to use the cigarette lighter adapter but that stays powered on which I’ll discuss at the end of the video.

The Garmin Mini 2 dashcam is a compact and feature-rich device designed to enhance your driving experience and provide valuable video recording capabilities. In this analysis, we’ll delve into its key features, advantages, and potential limitations to help you understand its utility and suitability for your needs.

Key Features:

High-Quality Video: It records high-definition video at 1080p resolution, capturing important details such as license plates and road signs with clarity. The 140-degree wide-angle lens ensures a broad field of view.

Automatic Incident Detection: This dashcam is equipped with G-Sensor technology, which automatically detects and saves video footage when it detects sudden accelerations or decelerations, like in accidents or collisions.

Voice Control: Garmin’s voice control technology allows you to easily save, take pictures, or start/stop recording without taking your hands off the wheel.

GPS Tracking: The built-in GPS records your speed and location, providing crucial data for accident investigations and insurance claims.

Wi-Fi Connectivity: You can connect the Mini 2 to your smartphone via Wi-Fi to review and manage footage using the Garmin Drive app. This feature simplifies the process of viewing and sharing videos.

Parking Surveillance Mode: The device offers an optional cable that allows it to monitor your vehicle while parked. If an incident occurs in your absence, the dashcam will activate and record the event.

Advantages:

Compact and Discreet: The small form factor makes it easy to install without blocking your view and is less noticeable to potential thieves.

High-Quality Video: The 1080p video recording provides sharp and detailed footage for documentation and insurance purposes.

Parking Surveillance Mode: Offers added security for your parked vehicle.

Garmin Brand Reliability: Garmin is a well-known brand in the GPS and navigation industry, offering a sense of trust and dependability.

Limitations:

Price: The Garmin Mini 2 is relatively more expensive compared to other dashcams with similar features. The premium price reflects its brand reputation and quality.

Limited Resolution: While 1080p is sufficient for most purposes, some users may prefer higher-resolution options for more detailed recordings.

Basic Screen Interface: The dashcam has a small screen, and some users may find the on-device controls less user-friendly compared to the smartphone app.

Parking Surveillance Mode Cable: The parking surveillance mode requires an optional cable, which may add to the overall cost.

In conclusion, the Garmin Mini 2 dashcam is a reliable and feature-packed device that offers high-quality video recording, accident detection, and convenient features like voice control and Wi-Fi connectivity. While it comes at a premium price point, its reliability, brand reputation, and added features like GPS tracking make it a suitable choice for those looking for a dependable dashcam to enhance safety and document their journeys. However, potential buyers should consider their budget and whether the features align with their specific needs.
