The Citroën SM’s Maserati V6 engine was mounted so far forward that it created such severe understeer that Citroën had to deliberately soften the front anti-roll bar and stiffen the rear to compensate, essentially tuning the suspension to fight the engine placement rather than redesigning the layout—a compromise that made the car unpredictably twitchy at the limit because the suspension geometry was fighting physics instead of working with it.
