The Mercedes-AMG Project One’s hybrid system can harvest so much energy from regenerative braking that the battery reaches full charge before a lap is complete, forcing the car’s software to deliberately disable regeneration mid-corner to prevent the battery from overcharging—meaning drivers must consciously modulate braking intensity to avoid the car essentially fighting against its own energy recovery system during the most critical moments of a race.
