What’s the One Tool Passed Down in Your Family… and What Does It Even Do?

We all have that one mysterious tool in the box—the one passed down from Dad or Grandpa—but nobody can quite remember what it actually does. Today, we’re taking a closer look at this forgotten classic. Do YOU know what this tool is used for?

The Nox-Tox tool is one of those mysterious vintage gadgets you’ll find hiding in old toolboxes. Originally designed to safely grip and loosen stubborn radiator caps, fuel caps, and other round metal fittings, it helped mechanics avoid burns and noxious fumes—hence the name “Nox-Tox.” Built tough and oddly shaped, it’s a relic from the early days of automotive work, and most people today have no idea what it was used for. A forgotten tool with a cool backstory.
