Richistan

As I finish books I'm going to give my two cents on them. The past month I've finished 3 books and want to share my thoughts around these. Moving forward I will continue to post books from my little "book club".

My first entry is for a book by Robert Frank titled "Richistan". This book is about a new society that is upon us, a society called Richistan. It's about old money and new money. The book compares how the new wealthy spend their money and how old money spend theirs.

Over 9 million households in the United States are in the $1 million club but $1 million barely gets you into the richistan society.

It digs into how new money has realized they cannot spend all the money in a lifetime or even the lifetime of great great grand kids. As a result, a donation of $25,000 to a charity is an after thought and they are donating $1 million dollars. The book gives a nice perspective how this "new money" can change politics and make things happen and how new money is primary democrats.

The book does a great job explaining the life of the members in the richistan society and giving examples of the average "burn rate" of their money and how they spend it.

It's a great read and I read it while traveling to Chicago and coming back to NYC over 3 days.

Overall, I rate it a 4 of 5 stars.
